Species Inventories

Sussex Rare Species Inventory

The Sussex Rare Species Inventory (RSI) was initiated in 1993, and now covers over 3,400 species. Species are selected according to strict criteria of rarity associated with their occurrence in Sussex. The aim is to be comprehensive for species i.e. to list the rare species of Sussex in all taxa.

Sussex Protected Species Register

In Sussex there are several species which have, or whose habitats have, legal protection, but are not “rare”. The reasons for conserving them are not necessarily the same as those for coserving rare species, hence the need to create a separate register.

Sussex BAP Species Inventory

The Sussex Biodiversity Action Plan Species Inventory (Sussex BAPSI) is based on the the new UK List of Priority Species and Habitats, which was launched last year by the UK Biodiversity Partnership and replaces the old list. The new list contains 1,149 species and 65 habitats.

Sussex Invasive Alien Species Report

With guidance from Sussex’s leading ecologists we have compiled a list of invasive alien species which occur in Sussex; this will enable us to produce ‘Sussex Invasive Alien Site Reports’ in order to help minimise the threat posed by invasive alien species in Sussex.

Sussex Bird Inventory

Working in partnership with the Sussex Ornithological Society, SxBRC now holds approximatley one million bird records ranging from 1990 to the present. These bird data are now available in our desktop biodiversity reports. The reports do not include breeding season records of 15 Schedule 1 birds and three other species which are classed as sensitive in Sussex. A list of these excluded species can be viewed here (PDF).
